The SI2000 Call Server (SI2000 CS) is a scalable, carrier-grade packet-telephony softswitch. It supports signaling protocols for TDM-network and Next Generation Network (NGN) connectivity. It controls traditional and IP-based customer terminals and allows the easy and quick deployment of new services on an open platform. The modular architecture of the SI2000 Call Server is compliant with the latest recommendations for the IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS). The Switch Access Node simultaneously performs the functionalities of switching and access on the same platform. The host for the Switch Access Node is the MLC platform, loaded with the stand-alone exchange SW package. As it performs the full functionality of the Switch Node, it can also control a number of Access Nodes, using the V5.2 protocol. This type of node is suitable for the lower-capacity range of SI2000 exchanges.
The Switch Node is used as a call-control (switching) device for exchanges with larger capacities. This node is based on the MCA platform, hosting the switch-node program package. The MCA uses E1 interfaces to the network as well as to connect the access layer of the system composed of a number of Access Nodes and the access devices of other vendors. They are controlled via standard access protocol (V5.2). Switch Node performs all call-control and call-control-related functionality, as well as networking.
